The "GWC Framework" To Analyze If You Have the Right People In The Right Seats

"GWC" is more than just an acronym; it's a strategic approach to aligning your team's skills, motivation, and capacity with their respective roles. This is a concept derived from EOS Worldwide.

Here's a breakdown of what each component entails:

Get It: This pertains to understanding the role's requirements and responsibilities. For instance, does your salesperson comprehend the intricacies of demos, follow-ups, and closing deals? Do they "get" the role.

Want It: Beyond comprehension, this focuses on intrinsic motivation. Are they genuinely passionate about their role and the company's vision? Do they bring enthusiasm and dedication to their tasks? Do they "want" the role.

Capacity: This evaluates their ability to handle the workload effectively. Do they have the necessary skills, time, and resources to fulfill their responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed? Do they have capacity for everything the role entails.

Quarterly Analysis

Implementing GWC involves quarterly assessments of your direct reports. This means reviewing their performance, communication, and cultural fit over the past quarter. It's about gauging whether they 'get it,' 'want it,' and have the 'capacity' to excel in their roles.

Addressing Weaknesses

If you find any area lacking in the GWC assessment, start by understanding the root cause. For example, if a salesperson is struggling with follow-ups, find into why. Is it due to time constraints, inadequate training, or a misalignment of skills? Addressing the underlying issues is key to enhancing performance.

Training and Mentorship

Sometimes, it's not about replacing team members but providing them with the support and guidance they need to succeed. Invest in training programs, one-on-one mentorship, or skill development initiatives to bridge any gaps identified in the GWC assessment. Note that you only want to do this if you can give them a "yes" to 2 other areas of GWC.

Implementation Across Teams

The power of GWC lies in its scalability. Train your direct reports to conduct GWC assessments within their teams, fostering alignment and accountability company-wide. By ensuring everyone is in the right seat, doing the right things, you pave the way for a high-performing organization.

Mastering GWC isn't just about ticking boxes; it's about fostering a culture of alignment, excellence, and continuous improvement. By regularly evaluating and optimizing your team's GWC, you lay the foundation needed for actual growth.
